Help Promote Literacy
The Carteret Literacy Council was established in 1984 as a 501(c)3 organization. We have one paid part-time staff member. All the rest are volunteers – tutors, board members, and others. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, click here.

We do not receive any state or federal monies. Our funding comes from direct donations, council memberships, sponsorships and grants, and fundraising activities like the annual Literacy Bee. These provide the learning materials given to our adult students and cover our office overhead costs.

You can help us raise awareness, just by booking us to speak to your civic organization or church group. We would love to share the powerful impact we have made in our communities and how you can become a part of that effort.
